Unique Service: International Pre-Marital Counseling

In addition to regular psychotherapy, I also offer unique services in international pre-marital counseling for anyone who speaks English, and who is seeking a Russian or a Ukrainian partner. Being a US-licensed psychologist in Kiev, Ukraine, I have encountered a number of men searching for local brides. Mostly due to their desire to find TRUE LOVE, they have sought psychological assistance with their search for the ideal mate. In learning more about these clients and the surprising similarities expressed by many of them in regards to open and honestly communicating with Ukrainian women, I have become inspired to offer this particular service.

It has been my experience working with these clients that trying to understand and assess someone from a very different culture can be a trying process, fraught with quite severe disappointment as a result of serious judgment errors due to cultural as well as language differences.  These differences tend to create an inability to “read between the lines”, so to speak, which typically allows one to assess the other person’s overt and ulterior motives, his/her overall truthfulness, the expression of affection and its degree, and many other extremely important determining factors in one’s final decision about their future family. 

Most of us take this ability “to read people” for granted in our language and culture but often fail to do so completely when presented with a very different cultural paradigm. For example, one might know quite well the typical behaviors of a “gold-digger” in his own culture, while he might be taken for a wild ride by someone with the same motives but from a different culture due to the cultural and language differences. The resulting misconceptions can lead to serious problems down the line, such as divorce and the related financial loss, emotional trauma, disappointment, feeling taken advantage of, and the ultimate experience of failure and loneliness.

At the same time, these are numerous possibilities for happy connections that do not get made for the same reasons. Given the complex nature of the search for a life partner from a different culture, it has also been my experience that having someone who comprehends both sides of the cultural and the language coin can be extremely helpful in this complicated process. Being a fully bi-cultural and bi-lingual person, I am convinced that I can spare many good people searching for happiness the potential pain and suffering they may inadvertently encounter by virtue of being poorly informed, as well as help them be happily married.

I would also like to make it clear that I do not offer matchmaking services per se; but if you are either contemplating searching for a foreign bride from any country of the former Soviet Union, or are dating someone like that and feel that you’re not getting the full picture, I would be more than happy to speak with you and possibly the person of your choice about your hopes, questions, and concerns. My role could be limited to a consultation, or we can tailor an individual plan to help you be successful and well informed from a psychological and cultural standpoint in your search for an Eastern-European bride.

I have also found that these services are best offered via video-conferencing, which is very cost-effective as they save time and money for traveling. I do wish everyone searching for a foreign bride the best of luck, and please do not hesitate to ask for help.  Assure you will not be the first person to struggle with a new culture before you get your reward. Make it a lasting one by really knowing whom you are letting into your life.
